Block Island North Rip was red hot on Friday and Saturday as 3 limits of Bass bass were landed in less than 1 hour with dozens of Blues caught as well. Deep vertical jigging diamond jigs and Deadly Dick's were the lure of choice. Capt. Sheriff recommends that heavy mono leader (50-80lb) is utilized since Blues are cutting off the expensive lures. Leaders need to be changed numerous times as well throughout the day due to the excessive activity of bluefish chopping away at the leader and lure.Capt. Sheriff also recommends that anglers leave their cell phones at home or in the off position since action is red hot and a recent charter client who brought his own rod saw it vanish to the depths while trying to talk and fight fish. 4 ounce Deadly Dick's are the choice lure when the current gets going so you do not scope out too far from the strike zone. The 4 ounce lure may be a little difficult to find but are available and may be order may be your favorite tackle store. That lure is very identical in size to the sand eels that are prevalent in the rip. Capt Sheriff discovered that big fluke like this lure as well. Check photo gallery for pic.
