Captain Sheriff and mates fished Block Island Friday night from 7pm- 2.30am Saturday morning. A late charter cancellation provided an opportunity for the Captain and his 2 mates to fish themselves for the first time this season. Our quest was trophy Bass. With the water temps increasing, Bass are active later in the evening and early morning this time of year. Within 3 minutes of arriving to a previous GPS waypoint on the Southwest side of Block Island, the first fish caught was a 43lb Bass. Shortly after that a 34 lb bass was caught and released. A 25lb, and a few in the low 20 lb class were caught as well. Nice quality fish on a great night with very comfortable sea conditions. Surprising, No Bluefish or dogfish which was great for us as so we well, keeping eel casualties to a minimum. While pleased with the results, catching and releasing bigger bass are still on the agenda. See the Big Bass pic on the website gallery page.
